I painted this work while in the French region of Occitania.
I wrote the words ‘Freedom, Equality, Sisterhood’ in Occitan and other languages that have been oppressed because of colonialism.
Daria Yurishcheva

I was born in 1986 in Syktyvkar (Komi Republic in Russian Federation). I graduated from the Russian state university for the humanities (2003-2008), faculty of archives, (specialty, which is equal to a master’s degree) and Moscow State Stroganov Academy of Industrial and Applied Arts (2013-2016), faculty of monumental and decorative painting. I also studied at the School-Studio SHAR (2017-2019), faculty of animation directing.
In my works, I explore the issues of collective historical memory through the prism of personal experience, traumas and losses. I am concerned about the mobility of identities, the mythology of roots. I investigate the peculiar character of personal history, the history of my family and other ancestral aspects within the history of our country.
I am also interested in decolonial discourse that I work with through personal experience of decolonization of thinking and public perception.
Directly on February 24, 2022 I initiated the ‘Animators Against War’ flash mob. This project involved about 200 animators and sound engineers from different regions of the Russian Federation, as well as from other countries. Our statement says: ‘Everything that is happening right now in Ukraine is a horrible tragedy. There is no way to justify this terror and the consequences that the war has brought to peaceful Ukrainian people. We call on Russia to stop all the military action against Ukraine immediately! We demand Peace! We demand respect for the territorial integrity of Ukraine! We demand respect for human life in every country of the world!’
